AccessA

For Businesses

Your accessibility maturity.
Your improvement pathway.
Your confidence.

Know where your business stands on accessibility, and what to do next. AccessA is built for Australian tourism businesses: it asks only about what applies to you, checks your answers against real evidence, and gives you clear priorities to work on. No compliance checklist. No fear of judgement. Just clarity.

Sound Familiar?

Most businesses want to do better.
They just don't know where to start.

The good news? You don't need to have it all figured out. Many businesses already do more than they realise. Others want to improve but aren't sure how. AccessA shows you both.

AccessA gets you unstuck

Our framework gives you a clear, honest picture of where you are, and a stepped, supported pathway to improve at your own pace. Progress, not perfection.

We don't know where to start

Accessibility can feel overwhelming. AccessA breaks it down into 12 clear domains across your visitor's journey, and shows you exactly where to focus first.

We're worried about getting it wrong

AccessA is designed to meet you where you are, not catch you out. You see your maturity level, not a pass or fail, and recommendations are practical, not punitive.

We don't know how to talk about what we offer

Once assessed, you have the clarity and confidence to tell visitors what's really there, so the information you publish is honest and credible.

We don't have the time or resources

No specialist knowledge needed. Every criterion explains each level in plain English. Do it on your phone, on site, and save as you go.

What AccessA Measures

Your visitor's whole journey,
across 12 domains

AccessA assesses your business against the AccessA Standard: 73 practical criteria across 12 domains of the accessibility and inclusion spectrum, from entrances and bathrooms to communication, sensory needs and your online presence. The criteria follow your visitor through five stages, because a great ramp doesn't help much if nobody can find out it exists.

  1. 1Dreaming & Considering
  2. 2Intending & Booking
  3. 3Anticipation
  4. 4Experience
  5. 5Post-Experience

12 domains

Each one covers a part of the experience that matters to visitors with different access needs.

01Digital Accessibility
02Destination Presence
03Pre-visit Communications
04Arrival & Parking
05Entrances & Pathways
06Bathrooms & Changing
07Vision Support
08Hearing Support
09Cognitive Support
10Service & Staff
11Animal Access & Policies
12Experience Operations

Five maturity levels

Each domain gets a maturity level, so you see progress rather than a pass or fail.

Built Around You

An assessment built around your business

A winery cellar door and a 200-room hotel shouldn't answer the same questions. AccessA shapes the assessment to your business, so you spend your time on what matters to your visitors.

It starts with your business type

Choose from accommodation, food and beverage, experiences and attractions, venues, tour operators, transport providers, retail and services, or other. Criteria that don't apply to your type are left out, and the ones that are essential for it can't be skipped.

Included

It responds to your answers

Some criteria only become essential because of an earlier answer. If your main entrance doesn't yet have step-free access, the assessment asks about an alternative accessible entrance. If it's already step-free, that question stays optional.

Included

It checks your website for you

You answer a few simple questions about your online presence, and we check your website's accessibility as part of the review. No website? Just tell us, and we'll take it from there.

Included

A quick check of what you offer

Before you start, a short set of yes or no questions about your facilities and services: a cafe, a pool, a gym, meeting rooms, guided tours. Every criterion then either applies to you or doesn't. We only ask what you offer, never whether it's accessible. That part is the assessment.

Why It Matters

Accessibility isn't a cost.
It's an opportunity.

Travellers with accessible needs spent AU$29.2 billion in Australia in 2024. They are travellers with disability or long-term health conditions, and the friends and family who travel with them. Most decide where to go before they arrive, looking for clear, honest information about your entrance, your bathrooms, your rooms and your website. If they can't find it, they book somewhere else.

Reach more visitors

People with disability, along with their carers and families, are one of the largest and most loyal visitor groups. Accessibility is a growth strategy.

Build staff confidence

When your team understands what's expected and how to respond, everyone benefits: visitors feel welcome, staff feel capable, and your reputation grows.

Communicate credibly

Visitors with disability often abandon plans when they're unsure whether a venue will work for them. Your AccessA results help you publish information that gives them the confidence to book.

Improve at your own pace

AccessA is built on the belief that progress is what matters, not perfection. Every improvement you make is reflected in your maturity.

Stand out in your destination

Destinations are increasingly supporting businesses that invest in accessibility. Early adoption positions you as a leader, not a laggard.

Access support programs

Your AccessA results may make you eligible for targeted improvement programs, funding and training delivered by destination organisations and tourism bodies.

"It's about progress, not perfection. We need to enable progression, and recognise businesses that are genuinely trying to get there."

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be an accessibility expert?

No. Each criterion explains what each maturity level looks like, in plain English. If you know your business, you can complete it.

What if something doesn't apply to my business?

Criteria that don't fit your business type are left out. Some can be marked as not applicable, and they won't count against you.

Do I have to provide photos?

Yes, wherever you say something is in place and a photo or document is the way to show it. Evidence is what makes your result accurate and credible. You can reuse a photo you've already uploaded on other criteria.

What if we don't have a website?

Tell us on your profile. The online criteria are answered for you, and nothing else in your assessment is affected.

What will my result look like?

Your overall maturity is shown as a score out of 5 with its level, for example 2.8 Established, alongside your maturity level in each of the 12 domains and clear priorities. No percentages, and no pass or fail.

Is AccessA an access audit?

No. AccessA is a maturity assessment of your whole visitor journey. It doesn't take measurements on site or certify that your premises or website meet a standard. If you need that, your AccessA results give an access consultant a head start: evidence, priorities and a clearer brief.

Can I update my assessment later?

Yes. Start your next assessment from your last one and update only what has changed. Your accessibility journey shows the progress.

Who sees my results?

You do, and the AccessA reviewer who checks your assessment. If your regional tourism organisation uses AccessA, it also sees your results in its Destination Portal, so it can target support where it's needed.

Where is my data kept?

In Australia. Your answers, photos and documents are hosted and processed in Australia.
